Morning sightseeing begins with a visit to the architecturally beautiful Grand Mosque. Drive to the old part of the city and explore the Muttrah Souk- a traditional market selling souvenirs including frankincense, silver handicrafts and gorgeous pashmina shawls. Then drive to the Bait Al Zubair museum before seeing the Sultan's Palace surrounded by the Mirani and Jalali Forts. They were built by the Portuguese in the 16thC. during their rule of the coastal cities of Oman. Afternoon at leisure.

The first stop is at the 350-year-old Nakhl Fort. The highest in the country. You also visit charming old neighborhoods and clay houses, including those at Wadi Bani Auf, Bilad Sayt, the 400-year-old town of Al Hamra and Misfat Al Abryeen. Stay at The Falaj Daris Hotel for 1 night.

As you travel from village to village the wonderful history of Oman weaves a magic spell... from the ruined houses of Tanuf, the small town of Bahla, famous for its gigantic Fort and pottery, to the fine Jibreen castle the history, slowly unravels itself allowing travellers to discover a unique land. Surrounded by breath-taking mountains views, after breakfast drive down from the mountains and head back to Nizwa. Visit the unique cattle market (early in the morning on Fridays only). Local livestock owners, both women and men, bring their animals- mainly sheep, goats and occasionally camels to the market. Also visit Nizwa Fort strategically built atop a hill overlooking the ancient city. See Birkat Al Mauz, a village of clay ruins. Take a journey into the boundless dunes and explore the life of the Bedouin, visiting their homes and taking coffee and eating delicious plump dates. One of the most sought-after parts of any Oman experiences is the Wadi experience, where you dip and relax in the cool waters of a natural pool... remember to bring your swimming clothing (bikinis are not allowed)! Surrounded by palms it's relaxing and cooling! Next drive to Sur to see fishermen working in the harbour. Visit the dhow-building yard where traditional wooden boats are handmade. Then see the stunning white beaches of Fins and the turquoise waters of the fascinating Bimah Sinkhole. Check in at Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah- Al Waha for 4 nights.
